Taekwondo is a modern kicking martial art that has its origins set deep within the history of Korea. It was not until 1972 that the World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) was formed and only a year later the first world chapionships were held in Seoul, Korea.

Over the next 3 decades the WTF work towards making Taekwondo an Olympic sport and in 1988 their efforts were finally reached with the arrival of the Seoul Olympic games. It has now been see in every olyimpic games scince and in 2007 Manchester hosted one of the Olyimpic qualifying rounds for the 2008 Baging Games which show us just how highly the koreans think of the BTCB.

Within the British isles the British Taekwondo Control Board (BTCB) is the only representative of WTF Taekwondo.

Taekwondo translates as The way of the foot and hand.
